Jennifer Aniston's career took off with a bang when she was cast in Leprechaun (1993)

Leprechaun is one of those classic horror movies that is so bad it's good. The plot is insane, the acting is over-the-top, and the special effects are laughably bad. But somehow, all of that comes together to create a fun and entertaining film. Warwick Davis does an amazing job as the leprechaun, and Jennifer Aniston is surprisingly good in her film debut. If you're a fan of campy horror movies, then Leprechaun is definitely worth checking out. Just don't expect to be scared - this movie is more likely to make you laugh than scream.

Legendary status has been granted to Warwick Davis's depiction of an enraged leprechaun. The film's leprechaun believes a human family has stolen his pot of riches. Armed with all his wits and power, he sets out to track them down. However, the family is still on the lookout for the gold in an effort to appease the leprechaun and prevent any more harm from coming to them. Due in large part to Davis's terrifying and memorable performance, Leprechaun is often regarded as one of the finest examples of the horror film genre.

Movie plot:

Dan O'Grady goes back to North Dakota in 1983 after visiting his homeland of Ireland, where he kidnaps a leprechaun and steals his pot of gold. After hiding the gold, O'Grady learns that the evil leprechaun followed him home and murdered his wife. With the help of a four-leaf clover, O'Grady restrains the leprechaun's powers and locks him up in a box. When he went to burn him, a stroke stopped him in his tracks.

After ten years have passed, J. D. Redding decides to spend the summer at the O'Grady farmhouse with his daughter Tory, who is now a teenager. The farmhouse is now being repainted with the aid of contract workers Nathan Murphy, his 10-year-old brother Alex, and their friend Ozzie Jones, who is considered to be somewhat dimwitted. While Ozzie is scouring the basement, he overhears the leprechaun calling for help and mistakes him for a little child. He frees the leprechaun from the carton by removing the worn out four-leaf clover that was inside of it. Ozzie learns from the leprechaun that he is really an Irish shoemaker who emigrated to the United States in the hope of making his fortune. Ozzie notices a rainbow after his attempts to convince the others that he had seen a leprechaun were unsuccessful. He decides to follow the rainbow in the hopes of finding upon a treasure chest along the way. Alex follows him because he is worried that Ozzie would hurt himself in some way. A bag holding one hundred gold coins mysteriously materializes in front of Ozzie. After Ozzie examines the gold and mistakenly consumes a coin while doing so, they conceal it in an old well in the belief that this would restore Ozzie's mental capacity.

After a pistol is discovered in the residence, Leprechaun is shot many times. They try to leave once it fails, but the leprechaun has destroyed the truck's engine. The gang is terrorized by the Leprechaun until Ozzie confesses that he and Alex discovered the pot of riches. Tory saves the bag from the well and offers it to the leprechaun. They rush to the hospital, certain that the worst is past. Leprechaun examines his fortune and discovers that he is missing the coin Ozzie ate. He confronts them, believing they have duped him, until Ozzie informs them that O'Grady has suffered a stroke and has been hospitalized. The group diverts the leprechaun's attention by tossing filthy shoes at him, and he is forced to shine them as Tory drives away in her jeep. Tory goes to the home to kill (blog post) the leprechaun.

O'Grady cautions her that the leprechaun can only be killed by a four-leaf clover, which grows outside the property. Nathan and Ozzie defend Tory as the leprechaun attacks her at the farmhouse. The leprechaun gets injured while trying to get Ozzie's final gold coin. Alex ties Tory's four-leaf clover to gum and launches it into the leprechaun's mouth, melting him before he can kill Ozzie. Leprechaun's skeleton escapes the well and says, "I want my gold." Nathan uses gasoline to fire both artifacts after forcing the leprechaun down the well. Tory reunites with her father, marries Nathan, and has a child when the police arrive. While cops explore the well's debris, the leprechaun vows to recover all of his gold.

Its total domestic gross in the United States was $8,556,940. In April of 1993, Vidmark made it available on VHS, and since then, more than 100,000 copies have been sold.

As a result of the producers' insistence that the movie should be made bloodier to appeal to older viewers, some sequences had to be reshot.

It is well knowledge that George Lucas had a hand in choosing Warwick Davis for the role of Willow. The reasoning for this, however, is not well recognized. According to reports, Davis was under contract with Lucas and couldn't feature in the film without the (blog) director's permission. At first, the leprechaun was meant to get away and go back to Ireland. But there was one problem: Warwick Davis, an Irish actor who played the leprechaun, didn't have a work visa.
